Yebo Sawubona!

It was so awesome to talk to ya. Sorry about the number problem, good thing i sent that txt. I didn't think i had a accent but i could see how it could change being companions with all South Africans. The sleep over was a blast, for the white elephant we did i just bought candy and a lil toy car thingy, and what i got was a tech deck(the lil skateboards) that was pretty kool. I loved the giftys, thank you so much, i had a lot of fun opening a gift every night.
I wasn't able to print enough pics for grandma but maybe you could go over there and just show her and everyone the pics, i think they would like to seem em. I don't know how long the pics will take to get there due to the holidays and stuff but hopefully they get there in a few weeks.
Yes Avery that is way awesome! :) Do you like the quiet? Or do you miss the loadness? Im glad you got snow, its just not Christmas without snow.
Ya we are only over one branch and the time isn't going to change because we meet at the Nseleni Library.

Its so awesome to hear that everything is going ok, i hope that you enjoi as well the holiday season. I miss you and love you so much. Take care

Dear Ma and Baba

Things are going pretty good. We have been getting a lot of rain as well. We don't have a Christmas tree, i did have one at my last area, but here we don't :( its ok though. Christmas isn't as big here, like no body puts up christmas lights only a few people.
I did get the package, thank you so much, its been fun opening the girfts everynight. :)
Ok so how the phone call thing will work is you will call me. I need you to call me on Christmas eve at noon (12) utah time so it will be 8pm here or so. That will be the best time because we are having a lil party at the zone leaders house. the number you will use to call me is 027-083-281-5517. If the family can be there that will be great if not thats ok. I think the limit is 1 hour.

Well every week we do a lot of the same things, like the morning schedual and then just eat then go to Nseleni which is about a 15 minute drive away. We have a pretty nice teaching pool here, but we do a lot of trackting as well. On P-days we email, shop, and clean. We play a lot of soccer, we might play some basketball cuz we have some kool americans in this zone but we will see. The house does have a washer, but no dryer, we have to hang our clothes.

So yesturday i had to give a talk, and it went really well, i had to speak for the majority of the time because some one didn't show up who was supposed to speak. But it was ok, i talked about Christmas, and my focus was on Jesus Christ and how we need to slow down during the holiday season and through out life because when we get to busy and move too fast we forget about the important things. At night we had a nice Dinner at the Nuzmans (the new couples they are from north Ogden) it was a way nice dinner so that was kool. Also i am sending the pictures either today or tomorrow so you will get that soon.
Things here in Richards Bay are going good. I have nothing new and exciting to share, but soon i will! :)

I love you and miss yo so much, tell everyone hi for me.

Sawubona!

I am doing awesome! The weather here so far has been nice, but i've been told once Christmas is over its gets supper hot! The place i serve in is called Nseleni, its another small township. I live in Richards Bay, the city is kinda small, we live next to a big big mall so that is way sweet! :) We live in a house, and a plus is that are room has AC! Its another 4 man boarding so there is me and my comp Elder Hall then there is Elder Mwta and Elder Castleberry. To get around we do have a car, its just the normal mission car which isthe white chevy aveo. The car is in the shop today cuz the brakes are notgood. We will get it tonight though which is good.
I didn't get the package yet, we are going to Durban Tomorrow for a meeting that is on Wednesday and maybe it will be there.
About the call, its easier if you call me, so maybe you can plan a time when the family can be togeher and then call me. Let me know though so we can plan, pick either Christmas day or Christmas Eve which ever one would be better and let me know. :)
So pretty much the people are way kool here, but this area is a lot tougher to get into homes and so forth. The Branch is way small, but thats ok, we just need to work extremly hard. This place is awesome, i love it. Its like North Carolina in a way because there are so many trees and its going to be humid. Its kool though.
Oh ya did i tell you that i am almost like a trainer for Elder Hall? He has been out 6 weeks and the training is a 9 week program, so i have to finish 3 weeks with him and the training stuff. How kool! :)
Anyway all is well. I love you and miss you.

Transfered!!!!!!!; December 6, 2010

Yebo Sawubona!!!

I am doing good, I got some exciting news! I GOT TRANSFERED! Crazy right. So i am now serving in........ Nseleni which is another small township by Richards Bay! The place is very small and i've been here 4 days about and the people are really kool. I've been told that in a few months this place is going to get really hot, this is the hottest place in the whole mission. There are so many trees so i haven't seen the beach yet, but i probably will soonish i hope. We also might go to a game reserve and see some sweet animals this transfer, probably after Christmas.
My new companion is Elder Hall, he is also from South Africa, so thats 3 South African companions, so thats pretty kool. He is a way kool guy, he is white, he is from Petoria. He has only been out 6 weeks, so that makes me a step trainer, cuz he needs to finish his training for a few weeks. Its kinda crazy that i am with someone younger then me on mission but its kool.
Anyway thats all that is really going on here, i am still working on printing pictures but its kinda excpensive so it takes time but i will send them soon.
Wow a lot of stuff is goin down back home. Sorry o hear that some bad stuff is goin down, but i hope besides that, that you are doing well.
Oh ya, so there will be no more transfer meetings, so when we get transfered that means we have to take buses and planes to get around instead of driving, so with that i will have to send half of my stuff home if i get moved again, only if its far away from Durban so i hope i stay here for the rest of my mission haha, but we will see.
But so everything is going well. Im starting all over again it feels like, but i feel up to the challenge, we will see how it goes.
In closing i just miss you and want you to know how much i love you and how much i love the work and spreading the gospel to the lost sheep of South Africa and sometimes it gets overwhelming because there is so many lost sheep here but all i can do is keep moving and keep working hard. I love you so much.

Yebo! Sawubona!

Howzit? Things are goin well.
Are baptismal font is sorta like the one you have, its not as nice, but im not complaining. The font is in our church building so we don't have to go anywhere special. Which is nice. World Wide training? Nope i have no idea what that is. We are watching a South East South Africa broadcast next Sunday. That should be pretty kool. My testimony is growing. The mission is going well. Sometimes it is really hard and stressful and then other days it goes perfect.
The work is going well, i think i told you we had a baptism last Sunday the 7th for Sandile and yesterday he was confirmed. It was amazing, also he has a friend who is interested and hopefully we can start teaching him as well.
All is well here. I love hearing from you. I hope all is well back at home.

8-ta (whats up the slang version)

Things in South Africa are fine. Im getting use to things, i know
where some things are and how to get there. Exciting news, we had a
baptism yesterday for a 16 year old guy. His name is Sandile and we
have been teaching him for a long time so it was awesome to baptize
him. Normaly i get a lil nervous when i do the baptism but this time i
wasn't nervous at all and it went perfectly!! :)
Don't worry, its all good, it was just a lil weird not getting an
email but no worries.
I haven't seen the Cox but i know them, they stay in Durban so maybe i
will get transfered there and i can meet them.
Laundry- well we have a washing machine, but no dryer, so we have to
hang our clothes but its all good. My new companion is good, he is
working on getting his license, he is learning the area really fast to
i have no worries when i get transfered.
My meeting with President Von Stetten went well, it was nice and
short, no problems. I don't see him a lot because we are so far away
from Durban.
My money is good, no problems. I am taking pictures, ill send some
home before christmas.
I can't really think of anything i need for chirstmas. So just what
ever is kool.
I do want to see a picture of Casey as the airbender d00d. That is so kool!!!!
But all is well here in South Africa i hope everyone is happy and
healthy back home.
I love you all so much. Take care.

Transfer Week: Oct 25, 2010

Yebo Sawubona!

I am doing great! I didn't get transfered so i am still in Madadeni!
SNOW! haha thats crazy. We also got pounded with rain we got hit with a hail storm yesterday as well. It is going to be so weird to not see snow in December, but oh well, this is a new experience and i look forward for it.
Josh got home, that is kool. Ward programs? What do you mean? We have a strong relief society, and young woman. Are young men need some work and our elders quorum needs a lot of help, but we are working very hard on improving that. The branch is good, just the leadership is not organized and it gets a lil frustrating but i am learning to not worry about that too much and just focus on the people we teach. I have not had to speak in sacrament yet.
I think South Africa does have a Halloween but its not big i imagine and i bet people here in township don't even know what that is but we will see. I will let you know if anything exciting happens on Halloween.
That is good that the family is doing well, that everybody seems to be busy that is good.
Well things here in South Africa are going good, yesterday we watched 2 sessions of General Conference and it was awesome, this conference has been way good so far and i look forward to next Sunday when we get to finish it. The work is going good, the teaching is improving, the Zulu is improving as well, i love it! :)
There is nothing new and exciting to report, i have a interview with President Von Stetten on Tuesday so i look forward to that, he is so amazing. He looks like he could be a General Authority in my opinion. But ya all is well. I can't really think of anything that i need you to send me. Just some great food and love! :)
all is well.
i love you and miss you so much.

Yebo Sawubona!

I am doing great, i had such a wonderful week that ended on a beautiful note with a baptism. The baptism was for Ma Nkosi the wife of baba nkosi who got baptized on the 3rd. ma asked me to perform the ordinance and it was an amazing experience.
Cooking, well i cook a lil, just noodles and this sauce stuff which is pretty easy to make. And of course i have my microwave meals, they don't have a good selection like home but they have a few. They store we go to is called Pick n Pay, its kinda like smiths but smaller and for clothes if i needed i would go to Mr. Price or Eddies.
Well each week we do pretty much the same thing, we do are morning preparations and study, then we eat lunch and then go to the area, which is about a 25 minute drive away. In the area we have a big teaching pool so we have appointments pretty much the whole day.
I make my bed every morning, i am the only elder in my boarding that does the dishes and cleans, so you should be proud you raised a clean missionary! :)
We don't really track, we contact a lot of people on the street and just walking, we walk a lot so we see a ton of people, but we do a lil tracking if we need to.
The teaching is good, i love it so much.
No kool animals yet, just a bunch of cows and goats walking around. We have seen some really big ones, and i mean really big!
I sent a lil letter to the Marvive family i hope they get it. I will probably send some pictures home soon.
Oh ya some exciting news, i might get transfered, but im not 100% if i will, i will find out tonight and i will let you know next week.
But all is good here, i got a good computer today so i am very happy :)
I love South Africa i love the work i love the gospel, i am growing so much here.
I love you so much, i hope everything is going well, tell the family and the ward members hi for me.

Sawubona Ma & Pa

I am doing very well. Lots of ups and downs but i am learning and growing from them. You are so lucky you get to watch conference live, we have to wait, and i don't even know how long. Pretty crazy how i used to not like conference and now im sad because i can't watch it. It has been Kuyashisa here as well. Kuyashisa means its hot. We might get some rain today as well, i really hope we do because it is so dusty.
Ah you got sick, thats not good, i hope you get better very soon.
haha BYU lost to USU haha that is so awesome. I really wish i could watch these games.
Ya i am learning stick, i am getting pretty good at it. Sometimes i mess up but thats how you learn right. We don't have a car but the other elders who stay in our apartment have one and it is just a Chevy Aveo. Thats all the mission has, the aveo and the senior couples have a Nisson Tida, which we don't have back in the states. Some areas have trucks, here they are called buckies. The buckies are really kool they are Nissons and they are really kool lookin, and i hope when i get transfered i can get one. I might get transfered soon here too but im not sure. I am still here in Madadeni and i love it so much. We don't have to do anything in the branch, but the branch needs a lot of help.
Yesterday we had a baptism for Baba Nkosi, it was amazing, i was so happy to see him get baptized by his father our Branch Pres.
I am healthy, my contacts are good, the only thing is i can only get a month out of them before they get all blurry and i have to change them.
But all is well.
I love you and miss you so much.

Sawubona Ma & Baba!

I am doing great, just a lot of stress, but thats normal.
So you went to a new condo, wow that is way awesome. Tarzan! That must of been fun to see. How is Sam and Becky?
Is mom excited to sing? Nervous? Any solos?
Utah seems like they are doing way good. Its probably cuz i can't watch the games, cuz when i watch they always struggle. Our apartment is pretty big. 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms 1 shower though. Remember there are 3 other elders that stay here with me. But it is nice. We have some sweet couches too. We go to send emails at this emal cafe right behind our place. So it is nice because of how close it is. I am writing in my Journal every day, no lie. I might need a new journal soon. We have found some new people, but we haven't been able to sit down with them and teach, but hopefully this week we will. I am still in Madadeni the same area, there is a lot of work, the branch needs a lot of priesthood brothers and that is what we are doing are best on and so far we are doing very well at it. It is just going to take time for the branch to get moving. Its a good branch, just not really organized, our branch President, President Moloi does everything on his one pretty much, he needs help for other people besides us. My Zulu is good, i still don't understand a lot but i am gettin better at the basics. We don't teach in Zulu, we teach in English but Zulu helps them understand more. I will not be able to watch conference, we have to wait till they come out on cd and then we can listen to them.
As of right now i don't need anything i am doing very well, i love it here and i love the people especially the kids they are so cute.
Oh ya how was Dads birthday? It was dads birthday right?
Well anyway gotta run, i love you so much and i miss you so much. i am doing good and i am growing so much. I think im gaining wait but i don't know i can't tell haha but i eat a lot.
I love you

My new companion is really kool, he is a great elder. Ya i have no money issues yet so that is good. i haven't bought anything yet, i will when i get time and maybe move to a better area.
Utah!!! ya that is so tight, does the team look good or does everybody else suck? haha
Well it was good to hear from you, i hope all is well in Wesvile.
Everything here is fine, i am improving so much, i am starting to really love it here.
I wish i could just write you a ton of stuff but they give me no time.

Transfer Week: September 13,2010

Sawubona Fam.

I am doing great, a little stressed, nervous, sometimes scared because i don't know the area that well and the transfer did happen. So i run the show now here in Madadeni. My trainer Elder Armstrong is now in Kwamashu down in Durban. My new companion is Elder Tlakotosi. He is way kool. He is also South African, he was born in Joburg about 35 min from the temple. I look forward to working with him, i know we will have success i just need to put my worries a side.
Its good to hear that the roof is done and you didn't fall. I fixed a roof as well.
I got the package, yesterday night. Thank you so much, when i saw it i got so happy and excited.
Tell Tom and Heather thank your for the letters and thank steph for the picture i love it and it will go on my wall.
It is good to hear that Utah is winning and BYU is losing, that makes me happy. I don't really care about Hunter anymore, they need new everything and to rebuild and maybe one day they will be an elite team.
I will try to get them a post card and write a letter for the Marvive family. I still haven't seen a key chain for Rhonda but when i see one i will get it. haha
The teaching is going well, i am improving a lot, my Zulu is better and im learning everyday. The only site seeing i've done is 1 day we went to a war site place and it was pretty kool. I took some pictures as well. Im going to send home some pictures pretty soon here.
Im glad to hear that all is well. I am doing good, im growing so much and learning so much everyday.
i love you so much.

Sawubona Pa Sawubona Ma

Im am well, i feel 100%. Sorry my email didn't send i guess, i thought i sent it but i don't know.
I didn't get the package yet. but im sure i will get it pretty soon here. Which roof are you working on? You better be safe up there old man.
Wow a new niece!!! That is so awesome, i better see some pictures.
Im glad the play was good, and that Utah won. That is awesome. Why in the world is BYU doing that? Do they want to be like Notre Dame?
I think it's so crazy how its getting colder there and it's getting hotter here.
The teaching is going well, i feel i have improved a lot, but there are still a lot of things i need to do better, but i know it will come in time and good study.
My Zulu is getting better, we don't have a lot of time to focus on the language but i pick up lil by lil.
Most of our service is working on yard work, we fixed a roof 2 weeks ago but other then that nothing really crazy.
On P-days we get up, study, go shopping, go emailing, and then we meet together as a Zone and play soccer most of the time.
Who is your home teaching companion?
How is everything in the ward?
So just some updates, on Sunday the 5th, we had a baptism with ma Shezi, she was baptized by her husband Baba Shezi. (my first baptism which was on the 8th of Aug)
It was awesome to see her get in the water, and to be baptized like her husband, and the daughter is on the way, we have a b-date for her on the 26th of this month. Also on Sunday we had District Conference, and the area of the 70 Elder Brickneil spoke, and our mission president, President Vonstetten spoke, it was so amazing when he bore his testimony in Zulu. I hope that i can learn my testimony in Zulu.
Also coming up this week, my trainer Elder Armstrong is getting transferred, so i will be getting a new companion.
All is well here in Madadeni, South Africa. The work is moving along, there is a lot of work to be done, and with faith we will succeed.
I am sorry i haven't sent any pictures yet but i will eventually.
I love you and miss you tell the family hi for me.

Sawubona Family!

I am doing very well. I am still struggling but im new and i am learning everyday and as i learn i am loving this gospel so much and it keeps growing and growing. The teaching is good, i am improving a lot, we have a big teaching pool of Baba's (fathers) and families. We are focusing on getting priesthood holders because are branch needs them and we are building up the kingdom of God through them.
I am feeling better, i just got a lil fever and runny nose and all of that fun stuff. Are branch is really small, about 100 people roughly, its large enough that we don't need to be doing things in the branch, we sometimes just help out by teaching the youth. Yesterday they had the primary program and that was really kool. We have a church in Madadeni, it is pretty small, but at least it has basketball hoops outside! :)
I felt rain for the 1st time in a month, how crazy is that! Im glad the weather is warming up here though. :)

Let mark and jeff know that there is a dirt track by are house in Newcastle, i heard them racing a few days ago. Oh and that a lot of the cars are hatchback and funny lookin. The car we get dropped off in (cuz we don't have a car) is a white Chevy Aveo. ( the car we rented that one time)
I haven't eatin anything crazy yet, just a lot of rice and beans and PB & J's haha. Are branch president (bishop) is going to make cow head for us, i don't know if i told you this. Anyway i will tell you how that goes, i hope its good.
My doggy, that is really sad, but i knew it was going to happen and that is a good thing because the dog was really really sick. I bet dad is counting the days till the cat dies haha.
James finally got a job, that is good. How is Rodney? Let grandma and everybody else know that i am doing well and that i love them all. Tell Rhonda that i haven't got the key chains yet because im busy, but i will get them, i just don't know when.
The work is moving along and i am supper busy.
I love you and miss you.

Sawubona Family!

I am doing okay, i am a lil sick but it is okay. Ok kool i am excited for the package, the address should be right. Was it the South Africa Durban Mission PO box 174 Wandsbeck 3631 South Africa? Cuz thats the mission office and thats where the letters and stuff need to go to.
There is a Mcdonalds by our house but we never have time to go there because are area is about 15 to 20 minutes away from are house. The name of the town is called Madadeni. So far the food has been good, the people serve us a lot of rice, beans, chicken, and meat. People here do eat tripe (cow intestine) but i haven't had to eat that yet thank goodness. On Wednesday we are going to have cow head at are branch presidents house so that should be interesting.
The teaching is ok, im still uncomfortable with the culture and people but it is slowly improving.
Poor dogy, she is getting way to old.
Tell sister Millius and the rest of the ward i said hi and that things are good. And we have some baptisms coming up, hopefully the investigators will keep improving.
I love you all so much, let the nephews and nieces know that i still love them and miss them.

love Elder Fishaman :)

Sawubona Family!
I am doing so awesome!! Not much goin on in South Africa, they had a local soccer tourny which was a big deal i guess because people were celebrating in the streets and making noise with those vuvuzela things. My companion is Elder Armstrong, he is a white South African from Petoria (i don't know how to spell it but ya) he is so smart and knows how to talk to the people. We get a ride to are area in Madadeni then we walk the rest of the day and night till we get picked up by the other elders who live with us. We stay in a apartment aka flat, and it is pretty nice, it gets really cold in the morning and at night but its not that bad. I did get my bedding and i didn't have to pay for it, and i didn't need to pay for a bike so i still have a lot of my american money.
Ok here is the thing im just going to buy a sweater here because it will be cheaper, so all i really need is that 9v battery, because i don't see them here. But if you already got the sweater thank you. I don't have a lot of time to shop so i don't know when i will get the sweater.
Ok my first baptism!!! it was amazing. Like i think i said last time his name is Baba Shezi he is 57ish, and it went well. I was so nervous but everything went well. Im going to print out some photos and i will send em home.
So my P day is on Mondays, and we played soccer with a bunch of teenagers and it was pretty fun. We might play basketball today but im not sure.
So everything here is gong well, im trying to learn Zulu but it is a hard language. Im learning to love it here, I need to learn fast because my companion might\ probably will be transfered soonish and im going to have to know the area so i can help who ever my new companion is, but hopefully that won't be for a while cuz the houses all look the same to me and there aren't any street signs and road names.
All is well here in Madadeni :)
I love you and miss you so much.

Letter Number 1 from South Africa!

Sawubona. Ninjani?
I made it to South Africa, my mission president is way nice and awesome. I got my new companion/ Trainer his name is Elder Armstrong and he is from Petoria South Africa (i think i spelled that wrong) anyway ya he is awesome, he's been out a year and knows pretty much everything so im in good hands. Im the only American in my district everyone is from africa except the DL Elder Cable he is from Australia.
My first area is called Madadeni,it's about 5 hours north east of Durban and it is pretty much all dirt roads and very very very small houses with like 2 rooms. Most of the people are nice except for the drunk people that walk around all the time. ( We live in Newcasle which is a good area with normal houses and stores and stuff)
We have a baptism coming up next sunday for Baba Shezi, he is an amazing man who is very excited about the gospel, so excited i don't think i've every seen someone that excited.
The work is good, im still getting used to everything here, its hard cuz everything is opposite and new and very weird.
Im learning a lil Zulu, the language is very intense, at the beginning of the email i just said Hello (sawubona) and How are you (ninjani) im working on the language so i can talk to more people as we walk around.
I am supper busy, my P day is Monday. fyi.
I didn't get a package yet sorry.
The address is the one that says wandsbeck on it or something like that, send everything there.
I love Africa, it is very different but as i get use to it this place will become awesome!
The money thing is weird, i don't know how much the stuff is that im buying, i just buy it.
Sorry that this letter is all over the place i just have a ton of emotions running through my body.
So all is well here, how is home? Anything new?

I leave at 10:50 am to Atlanta, then at 7:25 pm leave to Johannesburg, then leave for Durban on South African Airways. So its pretty much a 24 hour flight. My companion is goin to the same mission as well as 3 other Elders and 2 of em are in my room.
I don't know if i told ya but i did see Elder Bird (nathan) we talked for a lil while. I got pictures with Russel a friend from riverton at the temple, that was pretty kool. I see some of my friends but not too often.
I ordered a South African shirt at the book store and it is pretty tight im excited to get it.
Gym is fun, they closed the inside gym so i can't play ball and show people my skillz but thats ok, i get to play softball and soccer and that is always fun!
As of right now i don't need anything, i hope it stays that way for 2 years but ya never know, umm my contacts are good i haven't had to change them yet and i have had no problems. :)
My P day is on tuesday.
Well i gotta get goin they don't give you a lot of time to use the computer which is lame, oh well.
The work is good. I love you all. Here is a kool message i received at a LGM (large group meeting) " If you always do, what you've always done, you'll always get, what you've always gotten.
